Meridian employed a suffocating defense Friday, scoring two defensive touchdowns to lead the Mustangs to a 34-7 win over Tawas in the opening round of the Division 5 football playoffs. Jason Hockemeyer and Dakota Brodsky tied for the team lead with eight tackles apiece. Offensively, Matt Bowen finished with 147 yards on 17 carries to lead the Mustangs. Read→

Football: Junior Chargers light up second half to pick up 20-10 win over Chemics

The junior varsity Chargers fell in an early hole against their cross-town rival, but fought back in the second half to score 20 unanswered points and come away with a 20-10 win over Midland and cap a perfect 9-0 season. Read→

Meridian jumped out to an early 32-0 lead, led by Matt Bowen who finished with 228 yards and four touchdowns, to capture a 58-8 win Friday to pick up its sixth win of the season and clinch a spot in postseason play. The Midland junior varsity football team hosted Flint Southwestern Academy Thursday at Midland Community Stadium and picked up a 55-0 win in convincing fashion. Alex Rapanos passed for three touchdowns and rushed for another and Saxdon Miller rushed for two more to lead the Chemics. Midland improved to 8-0 on the season. They return to action Thursday, October 23 in a battle of unbeatens with cross-town rival Dow High. Read→
