Share this storyDow High’s JV Green soccer team ended their season on a high note as they beat cross-town rival Midland High 5-1 at home on Tuesday afternoon at H.H. Dow High School.
Most expected the game to be hotly contested by two fairly evenly matched teams, but Dow came out firing on all cylinders against a Midland team that couldn’t seem to get in a rhythm.
The Chargers’ Matt Bloom opened the scoring less than thirty seconds into the game, and things continued to spiral out of control for the Chemics throughout the first half of play. Dow’s Alex Peterson and Zach Johnson also scored to leave the Chargers up 3-0 going into the break.
The Chemics looked revitalized to start the second half of play, moving the ball forward and managing to keep the ball in their offensive zone. Dow managed to come up with an answer as Peterson scored his second of the game. Jack Goodwin also tallied a goal during the second half.
Midland’s Mark Torkelson finally managed to score a goal late in the game, but the Chemics’ rally proved to be too little too late despite having outplayed the Chargers for most of the second half and generating several quality scoring opportunities.
