On a day when it looked as if the Great Lakes Loons may let another one get away, they answered a Quad Cities River Bandits’ comeback in the eighth inning with four runs to break a 2-2 tie and help the final game of the series Monday afternoon at Dow Diamond by a score of 6-2.

The Loons scored a pair of runs in the fourth on an Eduardo Perez RBI double and Kenley Jansen’s RBI single to give Great Lakes a 2-0 lead.

Things stayed quiet until a wild eighth inning which saw Quad Cities score twice off Loons reliever Garrett White on a two-RBI single by Francisco Rivera to tie the game.

The Loons answered in the bottom half of the eighth when Perez and Jaime Ortiz ripped RBI singles to left field and Jansen added the insurance with a two-run double to right-center to give the Loons a 6-2 lead.

Loons starter Given Kutz was sensational in seven innings on the mound, spinning seven innings of four-hit, shutout baseball but picked up the no-decision. White (2-1) was credited with his second victory of the season after allowing the River Bandits to tie the score in the eighth and then shutting them down in the ninth.

Chuckie Fick suffered a tough-luck loss for the River Bandits after pitching 7 1/3 innings, allowing three runs in the contest, dropping his record to 3-3.

The Loons hit the road for a six-game road trip beginning with a three-game series against the Beloit Snappers. Game one gets underway Tuesday night at Pohlman Field. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
