Wizards mystify Loons again
June 3, 2008 at 11:22 amAndy Parrino’s fourth hit in as many at bats in the tenth inning drove in the go-ahead run as the Fort Wayne Wizards defeated the Great Lakes Loons Monday night at Dow Diamond by a score of 5-4.
Andrew Lambo got things started for the Loons offensively in the third when he drilled a three-run homer to right-center field to give the Loons a 3-0 lead.
It wouldn’t last long as the Wizards fought back in the fifth and sixth innings with a pair of run in each frame thanks to a two-run double by Shane Buschini in the fifth and Felix Carrasco’s two-run single in the sixth.
The Loons tied the ballgame at four with Alfredo Silverio’s RBI double in the bottom half of the sixth inning. The game eventually went to extra innings.
In the tenth, closer Miguel Ramirez allowed his first earned run of the season when Wizards second baseman Andy Parrino laced an RBI-single to right field to give Fort Wayne a 5-4 lead.
The base hit made Parrino a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate on the game.
Given Kutz started and allowed two runs in five innings on the mound for the Loons. Matt Sartor came on in relief to pitch four innings allowing two runs, and Miguel Ramirez (1-3) allowed the go-ahead run to score in picking up the loss, his third of the season.
Ramirez’ streak of consecutive innings without allowing an earned run ended in the tenth at 24.
Robert Woodard (2-2) picked up the victory for the Wizards. He pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Loons and Wizards continue their series Tuesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Baseball Card Giveaway courtesy of HealthPlus of Michigan.
