Loons hitting woes continue against Wizards
June 2, 2008 at 12:59 pmFort Wayne pitching continued to impress against the Great Lakes Loons’ offense Sunday afternoon as the Wizards shutout the Loons in front of a sellout crowd of 5,391 fans at Dow Diamond by a score 4-0.
Justin Baum laced a two-run double off the right-field wall in the opening inning to give the Wizards their first two runs to make it 2-0 Fort Wayne. The Wizards tacked on two more runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Ray Stokes and Robert Perry.
Daigoro Rondon started and allowed all four runs in 3 1/3 innings on the mound. Miguel Sanfler hurled 4 2/3 shutout innings of relief, surrendering one hit. Blake Brannon added a scoreless ninth inning of relief.
Allen Harrington (3-2) picked up the victory for the Wizards. He pitched a scoreless five innings, striking out nine.
The Loons and Wizards continue their four-game series on Monday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Given Kutz (1-0) makes his first start of the year for the Loons. Come dressed in your best costume as the Loons celebrate Halloween night at the ballpark.
