Share this storyThe Trojans were no match for the Chargers, as the Midland Dow junior varsity softball team proved Wednesday night dominating Traverse City Central 15-5 in the opener before improving on that mark in the nightcap with a 13-2 romp to sweep the series at Dow High.
“We had two good games tonight,” said Dow coach Kim Dankert. “Our pitchers were hitting their spots. They only walked one person all night and they had no wild pitches.”
Staci Thornton (7-3) got things going for Dow in the opener on the mound, striking out seven while allowing six hits to register the win.
She was helped, offensively, by Ashley McIntyre who went 3-for-4 with a triple, two stolen bases, and three RBIs. Stephanie Russell also went 3-for-4, while Samantha Wood and Billie Eigsti finished 2-for-3, respectively.
Wood (7-3) started for the Chargers in the second game and continued Dow’s impressive performance, striking out seven while allowing only four hits and one walk to qualify for the win.
Wood helped her own cause by going 3-for-3 with a triple and five RBIs. McIntyre continued her hot hitting by finishing 2-for-4, while Samantha Lantvit went 2-for-3.
“We had the opportunity to play everyone tonight and some of the girls got to play positions that they hadn’t been in,” Dankert said. “Everybody was talking and helping. It was good to see.”
Dow improves to 19-6-1 overall and 12-4 in league play. They return to action Thursday, when they host Coleman. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
