Dow High scored 29 runs during its doubleheader and improved its season record to 24-7 overall as the Chargers took care of Traverse City Central Wednesday and swept two games at Dow High School.

The Chargers’ performance was workmanlike as they took care of business against the overmatched Trojans. Lauryn Wilson picked up the win in an 11-1 game one contest, going the distance and striking out nine.

Offensively, Lindsey Allen was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Delainey Doughty was 2-for-3 with a double, triple, an RBI and a run scored. Shannon Hellebuyck was 2-for-3 with a double and scored two runs.

In game two, Dow scored 12 runs in the first inning and Courtney King struck out six of the nine batters she faced as the Chargers again won easily, 18-0.

This time it was Doughty who went yard as the senior tallied five RBIs. Hamilton was 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Shannon Young was 2-for-3.

After the games, Dow coach Jason Gehoski said the team was still able to take away quite a bit from both games, despite the lop-sided results.

“We came out here and we were a little more selective at the plate,” he said. “We had a few mistakes in the field and we played over those. One game at a time is our motto now.”

Gehoski’s mantra is tied closely to the team’s upcoming district battle, as the Chargers are poised to make a run. Dow should get a good test Thursday when they host Coleman. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
