Silver Hawks soar past Loons
May 16, 2008 at 12:58 pmThe Loons scored early, but not enough as the South Bend Silver Hawks defeated the Great Lakes Loons Thursday 5-3 at Dow Diamond.
South Bend struck first to open the ballgame when Sean Coughlin delivered an RBI double to make it 1-0 in favor of South Bend.
The Loons struck right back on Alfredo Silverio’s RBI double to score Erik Kanaby to tie the game at one.
Great Lakes took the lead when the next batter, Andrew Lambo belted his fifth home run of the season on Andrew Lambo poster night to give the Loons a 3-1 lead.
South Bend tied the game in the second and took the lead in the sixth when Chance Wheeless blasted a solo home run off Loons starting pitcher Justin
Miller to give the Silver Hawks the lead they would never relinquish.
Silverio led the Loons with two hits in the ballgame.
Miller (2-3) allowed five runs in five innings in picking up his third loss of the season. He walked a career-high five batters.
Jerrod Parker pitched six solid innings allowing three runs in picking up the victory improving his record to 4-1.
The Loons fall to 17-21 while the Silver Hawks improve to 16-21.
The Loons travel to Ohio for a four game series in three days with the Midwest League leading Dayton Dragons from Fifth-Third Field beginning Friday night. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Kyle Smit is scheduled to start for Great Lakes.
