Baseball: Junior Chargers sweep Al Quick Invitational
May 16, 2008 at 12:38 pmThe Midland Dow junior varsity baseball team ended the weekend on a high note at the Al Quick Invitational Saturday with a 13-4 win over Heritage, before Logan Praay’s walk-off single in the nightcap gave the Chargers a 3-2 win over Mount Pleasant at Dow High.
“We have really come together,” said Dow coach Ben Cronkright. “I’m very proud of our guys they went out today and competed. We benefited from some great starting pitching, and cashed in on most opportunities to score.”
Ryan Stone took the mound for the Chargers in the opener and went five innings, while allowing two runs to go along with six strikeouts to pick up the win.
Ryan Maddox led Dow offensively going 3-for-3 with a double and triple, while Alex Bank finished 2-for-3.
Chad Mayle started for the Chargers in the nightcap and went five strong innings, allowing two runs in a deadlocked competition with the Oilers.
The contest was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Praay came to bat with the stage set for heroics. And he did not disappoint, punching out a single that brought home Eli Rytlewski for the game-winning run.
Dow’s record improves to 14-4 overall and 10-4 in league play. They return to action Monday when they host cross-town rival Midland. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
