The Phoenix were no match for the Chargers as the Midland Dow varsity baseball team was able to outscore Flint Central by a combined score of 45-0, tallying a 25-0 victory in the opener to sweep the double header Monday at Flint Central.

“Often times you can get in bad habits in these types of games,” said Dow coach Kip Harris. “But we did a nice job staying disciplined and had good at bats.”

Those good at-bats saw Michael Allen go yard twice in the first game to finish 3-for-3 with six RBIs. Cody Elsen also found the long ball, connecting on a home run to finish 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Nate Richard went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs, while Sean Hartman finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.

Hartman (4-0) also took the mound for Dow in the opener. He pitched one inning allowing one hit, while striking out three.

Ryan Kaiser (1-0) took the hill in the nightcap and pitched two innings, allowing one hit while striking out three.

Offensively, Dow was led again by Allen who finished 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. John Wright and Michael Bork both went 2-for-2 for the Chargers.

“We threw strikes and had good at bats,” Harris said. “We took what they gave us and didn’t waste many trips to the plate.”

Dow’s record improves to 10-5-1 overall and 7-3 in league play. The Chargers return to action Thursday when they host Heritage. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
