Dow cheerleaders finish fourth at Oiler Invitational
February 4, 2008 at 2:05 pmThe Midland Dow varsity cheer team finished in fourth place at the Oiler Invitational at Mount Pleasant High School Saturday, trailing only Brighton, Rockford, and first-place Grandville.
Dow posted a score of 661.3 in Division 1 to secure a spot ahead of league rivals Heritage (585) and Bay City Central (451). Grandville finished with 791 points.
The Chargers’ fourth-place finish was five spots better than they fared at the Grandville Invitational in early January, where they took ninth. Saturday’s score was over 70 points higher than during the Grandville competition, according to Dow coach Kathy Snyder.
“They fell short of their season high score (709 at Meridian, Jan. 10), but they are making consistent improvements each week,” Snyder said.
The Dow junior varsity team also competed at the Oiler Invitational and finished fifth with a score of 475.3.
The Chargers will compete next at the Mustang Cheer Corrall at Meridian Feb. 13. They will compete at home Feb. 20 at the Dow Cheer Classic, where MidlandSports will have a photographer on hand to capture all the action.
Dow will also be hosting future cheerleaders at the Chargers Cheer! Clinic Friday. For more information, contact Snyder at 989-923-3344.
