Hockey: Chargers blank Wolves
January 24, 2008 at 3:20 pmThe Midland Dow hockey team went hunting Wednesday.
They found a goose egg.
Ben Nowak stopped every shot he faced and three different Chargers scored goals, allowing the Chargers to come out of the Bay City Civic Arena with a 3-0 win over the Bay City Wolves.
“We played hard and smart tonight,” said Dow coach Dick Blasy. “We played solid team defense, and limited their quality chances.”
Dow played great defense, especially around the net. They didn’t allow many close shots and few second chances. Nowak responded by making 28 saves.
“Ben made the saves he was supposed to,” Blasy said. “And one or two he wasn’t supposed to make.”
The Chargers were led offensively by Michael Allen and Eli Rytlewski, who both had a goal and an assist. Ryan Maddox had a goal, as well.
Dow improved to 9-5-1 on the season and 4-2 in league play. They are in action again Jan. 30 when they travel to Haslett to take on the Vikings. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
