The Midland Dow girl’s junior varsity basketball team jumped out to a big lead Tuesday and then cruised the rest of the way as the Chargers dispatched of visiting Heritage 41-27.

Sarah Arent led the team with 10 points to help the Chargers improve their record to 3-2 on the season.

“We came out with great intensity and jumped on top early,” said Dow coach Kyle Theisen. “We talk each game about getting an early lead so we don’t have to be the team to play from behind.”

The Chargers also got a boost from the bench as Taylor Thurston scored nine points.

“Taylor played a good game,” Theisen said. “She is getting better every day and is hitting the outside shot. She is spark for us off the bench.”

Theisen also praised the play of guard Katy Isles, who he said helped set the tone offensively.

“Katy did a great job of running our offense,” he said. “She is a smart player and does a great job identifying the other team’s defense to switch our offense.”

Next up for the Chargers is a tough matchup against Saginaw High Friday at H.H. Dow High School. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.

“We played well, but need to get even better in order to be ready for Saginaw High Friday,” Theisen said. “They will be a tough team, but if we do the things we work on, they are team we will play with.”
