Share this storyThe Dow High hockey team got its league schedule off on the right foot Wednesday as the Chargers defeated Bay City Central 4-3 at Midland Civic Arena.
Zach Stidham scored a goal and notched two assists and Michael Oakley tallied a goal and an assist as Dow improved to 2-0-1 on the season and 1-0 in Saginaw Valley League play.
“This was a big win from the standpoint of learning how to win,” said Dow coach Dick Blasy, who saw his team pick up the victory when Michael Allen scored with less than three minutes left to break a 3-3 tie.
The Chargers struggled to get going early on, Blasy said, but picked up the pace in the latter half of the contest to get the win.
“We started playing well once we started moving our feet and jumping to the puck,” he said. “We have to have that jump for a full game. Tonight we had it for only the last half of the game.”
Jordan Fairbank also scored for the Chargers. Leading the way in net was Ben Nowak, who stopped 21 of 24 shots.
“Ben has been solid in net this season,” Blasy said.
The Chargers will return to action Monday when they face off against cross-town rival Midland High. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
