The Great Lakes Loons failed to capitalize on a golden scoring opportunity in the bottom half of the ninth inning to drop a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to the Burlington Bees Monday night at Dow Diamond.

Trailing by one run entering the last half inning, the Loons loaded the bases on an Adolfo Gonzalez single to right, a bunt single by Trayvon Robinson, and a walk to Eduardo Perez. But the Loons squandered their last chance when Josh Bell and Tommy Giles both struck out and Matt Berezay grounded out to end the game.

Offensively, Giles finished 3-for-5 in the game and now has three-hit games in four of his last six contests. Robinson also went 3-for-5 in the game.

The Loons drop to 7-15 in the second half of the season and 41-51 overall.

Game Notes:

  • The Loons were managed by hitting coach Garey Ingram, who is managing the team on an interim basis while Lance Parrish attends his son Matt’s graduation from the sheriff’s academy.
  • The Loons are now 10 games under .500 which is the most they’ve been below the break even mark in 2007.
