The Great Lakes Loons began the second half of the 2007 season with a lopsided loss as they fell 11-5 to the South Bend Silverhawks Thursday evening at Dow Diamond.

The Loons actually out-hit South Bend, but committed four errors and walked 11 in a sloppy second-half opener.

Arismendy Castillo (2-4) encountered trouble in the fourth inning and lasted just 3 2/3 innings in the loss.

Matt Berezay hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning to provide one of the few highlights for Great Lakes.

Another bright spot for the Loons was the pitching of Steven Johnson, who hurled two scoreless, hitless innings in his first action since April 27.

A box score of Thursday’s game is available at milb.com.
