Loons add two pitchers
June 21, 2007 at 4:03 pmThe Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that right-handed pitchers Steven Johnson and Jose Diaz have joined the Loons’ roster and will be active for tonight’s game against the South Bend Silverhawks.
Johnson began the season on the Loons’ active roster before being added to the Ogden roster May 5. He was 1-2 with a 5.74 ERA in four games (all starts). He is ranked by Baseball America as the Dodgers’ No. 16 prospect.
Diaz, who has battled recent injuries, is in his seventh professional season. He pitched last year for Jacksonville, Vero Beach, and the GCL Dodgers. He is 14-15 in his career with a 3.12 ERA and 27 saves.
Both Johnson and Diaz will be used by Loons’ manager Lance Parrish out of the bullpen.
To make room on the roster, pitcher Michael Gardner has been placed on the Ogden roster and pitcher Yulkin German has been placed on the Loons’ disabled list.
