From the editor: MOL unveils MidlandSports.com

I’m sure many of you have noticed by now that MidlandOnline has produced a new site called MidlandSports.com and has begun posting local sports stories to it. Before moving forward too far with the site, I thought it would be beneficial to offer a little explanation of what MidlandSports is and what we hope it eventually will be.
As it stands, MidlandSports contains all the stories we’ve written for this year’s high school spring sports, the Great Lakes Loons, and everything else “sporty” we’ve covered in the last few months. From here on out, any sports story we publish will go on MidlandSports, making it easier for those who want sports to find them. For the time being, we will continue to post links on MidlandOnline that will take you to MidlandSports, but eventually we’ll drop that and include a button on the navigation bar of MidlandOnline that will take you to “sports.” Now if there’s a big sports story that is worthy of front page news, we’ll gladly post it on MidlandOnline, but for the most part you’ll be going to MidlandSports for coverage of your favorite teams.
Make sense?
Now MidlandSports is by no means complete. Rather, we see the current version as merely a foundation for a much bigger and better product. But just because we’re still working diligently behind the scenes to make these bigger and better features available doesn’t mean MidlandSports is without its benefits. We think you’ll enjoy our tagging system, which makes it easy for you to find your favorite information. For example, if you’re a big Chargers’ fan, you can click on H.H. Dow High School under the Schools section of the navigation bar to find all articles written on teams from Dow High. If you’re a big baseball fan, you can head to the baseball section under Spring Sports to get all baseball articles, no matter what school they’re from.
Another feature we think you’ll enjoy is the search function at the top of every page. We’ve tried to make it easier for you to find exactly what you’re looking for and you can do it here by typing in your favorite team, player, or whatever else it is you’re looking for. Better yet, there’s no complicated archive system or payment requirement to view old stories.
So that concludes my brief rundown of MidlandSports. We hope to roll out even cooler features for fall sports and will work over the summer to get those ready. In the meantime, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me at editor@midlandonline.com.
Thanks and take care.
