Loons fall to Cougars 6-3

The Kane County Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Sunday and shut down the Great Lakes’ offense the rest of the way in defeating the Loons 6-3.

Scott Deal earned the win for the Cougars, allowing only two earned runs in seven innings of work and striking out six.

Thomas Melgarejo was hit with the loss, surrendering four runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Offensively, Justin Fuller had a triple and a run scored for the Loons, while Josh Bell was 1-for-4 with a homer to lead off the fifth.

The Loons (17-24) travel to Iowa Monday to begin a four-game series against the Burlington Bees. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
