Loons sweep doubleheader
April 28, 2007 at 2:39 pmThe Great Lakes Loons have now won five of their last six games after sweeping a doubleheader from the Clinton Lumber Kings, winning game one, 4-2, in seven innings and taking the second game, 7-4 in nine innings.
In the first game, catcher Carlos Santana hit his first home run of the season – a three-run shot in the second inning. Starter Steven Johnson (1-2) fired 5 2/3 innings for his first win of the season. Garrett White pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for his first save of the season.
Game two was a see-saw extra innings battle. Trailing 3-1 in the seventh, catcher Kenley Jansen hit a two-run home run to tie the score, and Trayvon Robinson followed with an RBI single to give the Loons a one run lead.
The LumberKings (11-8) tied the score in the bottom of the inning and the game – scheduled for seven innings in regulation – went to extra innings. The Loons struck for three runs in the ninth inning with the go-ahead run scored on a bases loaded walk to Robinson. Doug Brooks recorded the save with a scoreless ninth inning. Miguel Ramirez (1-0) picked up the win after blowing a save in the seventh.
The Loons (9-11) return to action Saturday night in Eastern Iowa.
