Peoria Chiefs pitcher Billy Muldowney was the story in Midland Tuesday night, working six innings, striking out seven, and not allowing an earned run or walk in the Chiefs 4-2 victory over the Loons.

With the win, Muldowney improves his record to 2-1 on the season, while relief pitcher Rocky Roquet pitched a perfect ninth for his second save of the year.

For the Loons, Josh Wall got the start and pitched four innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned), a walk, and four strikeouts. Miguel Sanfler and Michael Gardner came on in relief and combined for five innings of work, allowing four hits, a run, and a walk while keeping their team in the game. Wall gets the loss, and his record is now 0-2.

On offense, Josh Bell led the way going 2-for-3 with the Loons’ only RBI. Trayvon Robinson and Bridger Hunt scored runs for the Loons, each in the third inning. Josh Lansford and Alfred Joseph led the Chiefs with two hits each.

The Loons have scored only seven times in their last 39 innings.

The two teams will face off again Wednesday night when Clayton Kershaw makes his Dow Diamond debut against the Chiefs’ Jose Pina. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
